Nigerian youth are staging protests against serious human rights violations committed by one of the country’s police force units. #EndSARS, a top trending hashtag on Twitter in the past week — both in Nigeria and worldwide. It was created by aggrieved Nigerian youth who are calling for the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad — a unit of the Nigerian Police Force accused of serious human rights violations. With over 1.5 million tweets shared in one weekend, Thursday saw the movement take to the streets. readmore

ECOWAS Court Fixes 18th November 2020 for Judgment in…

In the consolidated cases with suit no: ECW/CCJ/APP/45/18 and ECW/CCJ/APP/42/18, the first and second plaintiffs, now 88 and 48 years respectively, who were sentenced to death by hanging, submitted that they have exhausted all the opportunities for appeal and that they were recommended for amnesty by the Federal Board and Committee on Prison Visit, recently due to their chronic medical condition and ill health. The plaintiffs are seeking an order of the Court affirming that they have suffered extreme mental torture, inhuman and degrading condition having been kept on death row for more than 15 years and without access to adequate medical treatment and that the first and second applicants should be released, and by virtue of their age and medical condition they are entitled to be released forthwith from detention. readmore

Nigeria: The Fury in Katsina State

Youths from Dutsinma Local Government of Katsina State were also recently on the street, to protest unending killings by “bandits” in the state. The frustrated youths from Turare, Marke and Dogon Ruwa villages blocked the Dutsinma – Kankara highway for hours, lamenting endless butcheries in their communities. One of the youths who pleaded for anonymity said: “We are tired of the activities of bandits in our communities. We blocked the highway to show our displeasure over insecurity here. We want the authorities to be aware of our plight and come to our rescue.” readmore

The MNJTF is a regional military alliance defending against Boko Haram insurgents. Since July 2016, the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Nigeria has been developing its new Teachers Training programme. Turkey Condemns Boko Haram Terror Attack in Nigeria

Turkey on Saturday condemned a deadly attack by the Boko Haram terror group in Nigeria that claimed over a dozen lives. “We are deeply saddened to receive the news that many people lost their lives in a terrorist attack that took place in Baga region of Nigeria targeting the convoy of Borno Governor,” Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “We condemn this heinous terrorist attack. MNJTF Rescues Civilian Hostages From Boko Haram

The Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a regional military cooperation forces of countries around the Lake Chad shores, has rescued 12 civilians hostages from Boko Haram captivity. MNJTF spokesman, Col. Muhammad Dole in a statement from the Force’s headquarters in Ndjamena – Chad capital on Saturday said the rescue operation was conducted by the force following an ambush and offensive on the terrorists by troops. readmore
